In 2013 I started collecting references to books, articles, research papers, web pages and sites with references to mindfulness. At that time I started a Google Alert, which lets me know when any keyword I set comes up on the internet anywhere in the world. In the beginning there might be a few references a day, often none for a few days. Now, as we approach the close of 2016, my alerts now count in the dozens each day, everything from announcements in an Australian local paper that a youth center in a small town will be teaching mindfulness to teens, to many articles in business journals and various magazines touting applications of mindfulness to all manner of things.
The term 'tipping point' came into vogue in 2000 with a book by Malcolm Gladwell by that name. To learn more about the concept, HERE's a nice summary of the book. It has come into common usage since then and as I understand it a tipping point is a point in a society when a new development or concept(sometimes called 'meme') hits a critical mass where it goes from being known by a few to being used by the many, in exponential fashion.
For my own purposes concerning mindfulness references, somewhere in early 2016 I noticed a dramatic increase in my daily alerts, both for 'mindfulness', and somewhat slightly less but still increased for 'PTSD Veterans'.
My challenge now becomes filtering out the wheat from the chaff -- as there is a great deal of 'mc mindfulness' out there. So as my work on the bibliography for this site continues, I now only keep references which are from reputable sites and universities or NGOs and non-profits conducting research. Rest assured that all the links posted on this site have been vetted. However, if anyone finds a citation I've added to be bogus or unreliable, please let me know right away.
Happy reading!
