The book quoted below would be a good addition I think to our Mindfulness Library in "Doc's" office.
IVW (Interfaith Veterans Workgroup) is growing, and we're getting members who have skills that would be helpful in providing deeper kinds of help, like running support groups and providing mind-body training like yoga and mindfulness meditation. I'm learning a lot by reading Bessel Van der Kolk's book, The Body Keeps the Score. I highly recommend this book for understanding how trauma affects the mind and the body together. He talks about many kinds of mind-body trauma therapy approaches which have proven successful. We could do a responsible job with some of them by using our present members' skills and scaling up our own training. It's something to think about, given the fact that the VA is not able to meet the demand of traumatized veterans.
