Here's the email I got and want to pass on to you all as it seems so relevant to what we're doing in our MBSR groups:
This is being put together by Richie Davidson, the 'happiness guy' from Univ. of Wisconsin (a long-term meditator himself) who did all the research on Tibetan monk meditators etc. There is a review of one of his books in the library section of our web site. He's been in a collaboration with the Dalai Lama and the Mind & Life Institute studying in a scientific way what meditation does (or doesn't) do for people in many different contexts.
For me, The Dalai Lama's writings and speeches have been very inspirational and extremely helpful to me in my own efforts relating to mindfulness and meditation. He speaks with great clarity and simplicity even about the most profound of ideas. You can see reviews of his and Davidson's books at this link:
I hope you can sign up and participate in this live internet event. I know it's the same time as the Wednesday group, so maybe those of us in the Wed. CBT group can set up to watch it together (Dr Wright?)
Here's the place to sign up:
centerhealthyminds.org/the-world-we-make
I'm thinking they'll probably record this and then make it available later (but for a price?), but I'm hoping to experience it live.
UPDATE APRIL 21, 2016: THIS IS NOW AVAILABLE ON YOUTUBE. It's an hour and a half long. If you're into mindfulness, well worth the time. The Dalai Lama is something to behold. He's warm, has a sense of humor and speaks simply, yet the depth of the man's thinking is amazing to me, and inspiring. Anyway... This is an official version released by the Center for Healthy Minds so it should stay on YouTube.com. Here's the link:
You're invited to The World We Make live-stream event on Wednesday, March 9 at 1:30 p.m. CST with His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The live-stream is brought to you at no cost by the Center, the National Geographic Society and the Mind & Life Institute.
