In the course of finding resources to post here I came across several titles by a Dr based in Philadelphia', University of Pennsylvania. I've started reading his books and wanted to make you aware of him, as he not only applies brain scan studies to meditation such as we learn in VA's MBSR, but he and his colleague have studied other traditions, such as Centering Prayer, "Holy Rollers" (Pentecostal Speaking in Tongues), Catholic contemplative nuns, and many types of Eastern tradition meditation including Transcendental Meditation, as well as atheists have been studied. He has been at this for some time and I am finding his books fascinating, chock full of evidence-based findings and also very 'user-friendly', an easy read even for someone without a scientific background. Once I'm finished what I'm reading now I hope to post more details about his findings. Until then, please check out his website for yourself, He's at: www.andrewnewberg.com/
